Dinner with the Cobb's

We have known the Cobb family for many years thanks to our sons...Cub Scouts, Baseball, Soap Box Derby, Summit Point Speedway, etc. And in 2008 Texas and Chase both came to Akron representing different Local Races to compete in the All American Soap Box Derby Race. They competed against each other, but neither trophied.

This year both boys are here again - Chase in the Super Stock Division and Tex in the Masters Division. GOOD LUCK Tex and Chase!
We decided to get together last night for dinner at the campground and had a great time. It's funny how you have to be 'out of town' to get together yet we live so close. That's just the way it happens these days with everyone being so busy!
By the way - Greg is standing on a hill, lol! He's really not that much taller than the rest of us.

Ohio!

We always like to patronize the 'locals' in whatever town we happen to be in. This shouldn't surprise you.....And this farm actually had a "drive thru" for produce - pull up, tell them what you want, pay and you're good to go!
Lots of yummy stuff within a few miles of the campground!

Race Week - Day 1

Monday IS absolutely royal treatment for the CHAMPS!

We made our way to downtown Akron by 7:30 a.m. to stand in line for Champ Check-in which started at 9:00. There really is no organization to the line.....just shear chaos with balls floating, buttons being traded and tons of t-shirts proudly showing winners names, cities and anything else important to these champs! The local Akron champs even come in a limo - wow!
There are police officers everywhere but this one is such a good sport! We have a picture of Chase with her 2 years ago, too =)
As we stand in line, we keep our fingers crossed that Chase's car gets VIP. Basically what that means is that during inspection of the Champ's car, everything is PERFECT! This also gets the driver and his car handler 1)special treatment, 2)a blue VIP badge that is worn all week, 3)more free time and 4)recognition for having a car with NO issues!

Ok, check in starts...they make their way up to the front .....it's their turn - see the anticipation as they wait for his name to be found and see if it's VIP?and.......YAY! Actually both cars from our Local Derby received VIP Status so "nice job Ronnie"!

Now it's time for his police escort to Canal Stadium - too cool! He's greeted and congratulated by several AASBD Officials...
Now, up on stage....time to sign the All American Soap Box Derby book..Now - here's what the crowd loves!! Throwing out all his goodies
And here's the bracket - Wow - that's a lot of heats - with a lot of drivers. He drew lane 2 and runs against a girl from Kokomo, Indiana and a boy from San Diego, CA.

VIP's get to attach their shell on Monday afternoon -So let's get in there and get it done!!Each Champ gets a bag with 'gear'. Three CHAMP shirts to be worn during the week, a sweatshirt and this year a watch! Pretty nice, huh?We headed back to Canal Stadium for an Akron Aeros game...there was a parade of Champs..and then there's Orbit, lol!I think you agree Chase had a pretty busy day - but what a wonderful experience for these CHAMPS!

Tomorrow is day 2 - a much lighter day but stay tuned!!

Pin Trading -

We're here! Arrived safe and sound now getting ready for RACE week to begin tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m. Once we arrived at the campground it wasn't 1/2 hour before someone came by and wanted to trade pins. Chase was ready - this one is actually a girl from Virginia (not far from us) who is 17 and a Rally Master Champ!Chase has 250 to trade - anyone want to guess how many he can get? Here's what he got last year....Have a great time tomorrow and I hope you get VIP!!!

The Pretty Princess

A little piece of Paradise..

We used to go here for the world's best "Painkillers"
but now we can go here....

The VanTol's invited us to their home last night for our 'Friday night out' and we totally enjoyed sitting out back with them in their little paradise. I love their 'porch'!

Needless to say my cheeks hurt from laughing so much =) Thanks Bill and Ann for a wonderful evening. And...don't forget about our next 'date'!

A new favorite!

Some friends of ours talk about 'walking' to their bar. Ok, so I thought I understood but......I so didn't!

Last night they invited us over to their house to enjoy the beautiful weather then dinner here.....
This was the coolest place! It just felt like everyone knew each other...just a small town pub. We spent several hours in there, talking about tons of stuff and enjoying the company. Then...we WALKED home. Wow, now I get it! We didn't get home until around 1 but were up and in church right on time this morning =)

So - thanks Becky & Jeff for a really fun night! Can't wait to do it again..

Next up.....

Baseball is done for the season. Shew....don't know that I've ever been so ready for it but this year Ronnie and I are ready to move on for a variety of reasons.

This week our boys played in the District Tournament. We won the first game. Lost the second. Won the 3rd. Lost the 4th. All in all they did pretty good but just couldn't pull it away from Winchester. Chase moves up to the 'big boys' field next season so this really is closing another chapter.

Regardless, we are all proud of the Summit Point Pinnacles!I am still wondering though if we could have won the 2nd game if this was our 3rd baseman =)As most of you know, there's always something going on here at Crockett's Corner. So, our next adventure starts next Sunday when we head to Akron, Ohio for the All American Soap Box Derby.

12 hours -

to make the 'special delivery' of Chase's Soap Box Derby car to where else but the famous.....It was a 'Father/Daughter' bonding day =) Cierra and Ronnie left this morning around 9 and arrived back home around 9 tonight. All is well and Chase's car is safe and sound. We'll be there before we know it - just 2 weeks from now! How exciting.....
Check out the "hill".....So stay tuned for all the events and fun Chase will have starting Sunday, July 18th!
