Merry Christmas to me!

As a kid I remember the 'cuckoo'.  My Dad loved his crazy clock and at times it was totally annoying, LOL  I also remember the chain sound as the clock was being wound.  Oh those memories.  Special.  Unforgettable.  So when I opened the box Christmas morning and found this - i was soo excited.

And i love hearing that annoying cuckoo.  And love hearing the chains being pulled to keep it going.

Thanks Ronnie - it's a special gift.  Totally LOVE it.

The Bench -

At the Beach - Where you can sit and chat with my Dad =)

The Bench - that faces the ocean.  It's close to Thrashers and a few other places he used to enjoy.    Wayyyy back in the day, while we soaked up the sun.

On Sunday Pastor Joanna 'blessed his bench'.  It was a perfect little service where she wrote/read a poem just for Dad -

In a sunny spot resides a new bench,
It would be a perfect place to sit on the boardwalk
with children sitting at your feet teaching them all that
you know about animals, about the great outdoors,
from a time when they experienced in person
not on the Discovery Channel, not on TV.

You could read a book to them there too
you could sit quietly in the sunshine
and nurse an unfortunate animal back to health.

You could just sit, your coffee in hand and take it all in
or let it all out, your choice.

But you will never do any of these things on this bench
in the sunny spot among the planks and concrete and
smooth river rocks painted in your honor by the children
to whom you are missed because the bench is dedicated
with your name on it in memory of you.

It was a heart warming day.  Every summer at least once he took me there.  Because of that, a part of my heart will always be by the sea.  And now, I can sit and chat with hm each time we visit......praying that he hears me and wishing so he could talk back.

Once the dedication was complete, Pastor Joanna passed out rocks - river rocks - painted with his favorite words.  PERFECT!

Body Art....

Since Ronnie and I both have tattoos, it's kinda hard to tell our kids they shouldn't do the same.  But, we do ensure (or try to) that they really think about what they want.  It should have meaning.  It has to be something you won't regret 20 years from now.

Chase has been asking for a few years now and has known exactly what he wanted and for the past 2 years he hasn't changed his mind.  So we decided to let him do it.  It met all the criteria -

He chose the spot (of course we both love this place) -

he met the artist -

got in the chair -

and then Shawn went to work -

and then the finished product -

Chase designed this in memory of my Dad, his Grandfather aka Butch.  Even though my dad had little education, he worked hard and made a decent living.  He was very successful.  He built many houses within our area along with over 100 apartment units.  To Chase, this was an empire.  Dad/Butch overcame adversity.  He lived by the Serenity Prayer from the time i was 16 until his last breath. The orange ribbon is for his Leukemia and the hammer for all the hard, hard work he did.  Ronnie and I think this is an awesome tatoo.  I love the meaning.  If Dad were here, he would find something silly to say like 'you should have put a goat in there somewhere', haha!

So there you have it.  Chase Bayley has his first tattoo.  Woo hoo!
