Caffeine Heaven!

Yes, I think we may have found it!
Ronnie and I love coffee and like to have some 'flavored' beans on hand. Tonight we found the best place to go. Greencastle Coffee Roasters in Pennsylvania. It was our night out so I checked with Ronnie to see if he thought we could make it there by 7:00 - of course, he was game so I headed out of work around 4, got home and hit the road again. How perfect too, since they are calling for a 'significant amount' of snow tonight and tomorrow. Take a look - I will admit I was overwhelmed with all the options. We ended up getting 10 different kinds..yay!

The owners were very nice - definitely gonna be a 'regular' place we shop.
Of course we had to stop and eat. We met the nicest server who talked about her five year old and his wish list for Christmas then we headed home. And...yes, it IS snowing, the woodstove IS burning and we DID brew a pot of coffee. So tomorrow morning when we get out of bed (hopefully late) we have options....which will it be!?

What ARE your words?!

This phrase is one of our 'inside jokes'. Mendie and I tend to take funny children's phrases and adopt them - this is one that a co-worker's child didn't quite understand what her Mom was asking so said "What are your words?" We loved it and use it every now and then.

So..here's a challenge for you: What does this?
And this?
Add up to? You're probably saying "what are her words" now, right?!

Wordless Wednesday

A Great Time!

Tonight was the 4H Christmas party and this group of kids had a great time!

Nothin' fancy around here...

but we still love to celebrate Christmas and today we're on tour!

with that said, here's some of the Christmas decorations you'll see around our home. Some are old, some are new but for the most part, they all become tradition sooner or later.

This is Ronnie's "Nascar" tree. Over the years he and Chase have gotten so many ornaments related to Nascar that we decided to put a tree up in his 'showcase' room. The snowman within the tree is also something that I had to have years ago and just can't seem to part with it.

This little guy will greet you when you get to the top of the steps and enter Crockett's Tavern....
And this tree is in my sewing room (yes, this is a ceramic tree and I am absolutely telling my age)
This sits in my laundry room - I love snowmen! I actually leave a lot of my snowmen out until Febuary/March....
This is the 'tree' in our sitting room. We DON'T have our big tree up yet. We're working on it but it just hasn't happened, lol!
I love this wall hanging! A friend from work gave this to me before I started quilting and I was so appreciative. But..once I started quilting I realized what really goes into a gift like this! Every year when I hang it I think of all the hard work and effort that went into this.
The nativity sits under one of our trees each year. I'll be honest, I have had this for over 25 years and baby Jesus is missing an arm, one of the kings got broken but it is still very precious to me :)
And our Disney Christmas Countdown. We all love this. After Christmas we use it to countdown to our annual trip to Disney! Woo Hoo....oh, that's right, we're not going in 2010 :(
This is our 'living room' tree which is where we tend to spend Christmas morning. For some reason, we always end up back in the original room where we spent soooo many Christmas mornings.
And it goes on...and on. Every room in our house has something special representing Christmas and most of you already know that we even put trees in our powder rooms, lol!

Foosball Upset!

Chase has been the reigning foosball champion for a really long time but tonight....well, it's a different story. The trophy has changed rooms (Chase says just for a night) as Ronnie took the new CHAMP position! They are both very competitive so anyone wanna guess when it will move back to Chase?

P.S. If you go back in to the blog archives from February you will see Chase holding the trophy....it's been his since then. Wow!!

Parade Day - Chilly but beautiful!

The Charles Town parade never worked out for us (it's a long story) but we were invited to the Harpers Ferry parade so Ronnie took them up on the offer! There's not a cloud in the sky but Christmas is definitely in the air.

Chase is riding in his runner up Super Stock Champion Soap Box Derby car along side Nick Falso who was this year's Super Stock Champion. Nick's sister Grace was also onboard. She was the runner up in the Stock class this year. Ryan Cole and his dad, Frank were participants as well. Susan (Ryan's Mom) was inside the truck with us where it was nice a toasty. The Cole family does a lot of work 'behind the scenes' all year long to help prepare for the Spring race. 2010 will be the the 6th year for the Ray Miller Soap Box Derby. This event continues to grow within our community. This will also be the 3rd year for Chick-fil-a sponsoring the race. It was pretty funny today to see the crowd so excited about Chick-fil-a! Many times I think they actually thought it was a 'EAT MORE CHIKIN' float instead of promoting the local Soap Box Derby race, LOL.

Kelly's Korner - Cookies for Santa?!

It's all about the cookies this week! I don't like to bake until about two weeks before Christmas so this is really cutting it close, ha! But, here are some of the 'traditional' cookies that are made around here.

Sugar Cookies - right out of the Paula Deen Christmas magazine! This recipe makes a lot of cookies.

These are just like Reese cups - again, stole from Paula Deen!
The famous Pampered Chef Oreo Truffles -

one pkg oreo cookies (chopped up)

8 oz soften cream cheese

Stir together then scoop small balls onto sheet

refrigerate for an hour

dip in melted chocolate

place on wax paper until set

DELICIOUS!


And everyone knows what these are, right?




We tend to get little plates like the Snowmen from The Pampered Chef or Longaberger and wrap up some cookies for the Sunday School teachers and other people who enjoy fresh baked cookies. You can never go wrong with cookies, right?

I enjoyed spending 'quality' time with the kids baking cookies - just think next year we'll have another little helper :)

I do have one batch I haven't made yet, they're still in the refrigerator but shew....we have baked a lot of cookies so far! Every so often I'll try something new but it does get pretty hectic so for the most part, this family is happy with whatever gets baked.

Head, Heart, Hands & Health

Tonight was all about the 4Her's hearts. We met at Walmart to buy presents for a family of five. Each year this group gets together and helps a family in need. During the fair the club participates in the "Bake Auction" which enables them to help out a family at Christmas. This year their baked goods raised over $700. What a great way to spend some of that....it's all about spreading the cheer, right?
